Multi Vitamins, Homocysteine, Total Health, Simvastatin & COQ10
Hi Ben,
A quick question. Does the Total Health supplement replace the multi vitamin? Will I need to take anything else besides Total Health and Beta Glucan? I don’t want to spend money on anything I don’t need. Thanks.
Tony
Hi Tony,
Yes Total Health is a much higher quality Multi-Vitamin formula than you can normally get anywhere as it contains a natural version of vitamin E for example, not the synthetic. TH contains also a far more comprehensive and chelated minerals complex than is commonly available as well.
However TH does not include the B Complex vitamins. The reason for that is that we sell B Complex separately as we do B Complex in four different strengths. The reason for different strengths is that our B complex is specifically formulated to reduce and maintain healthy Homocysteine levels and that is why our B Complex contains useful TMG and Folic acid as well as natural versions (not synthetic) of the B12 vitamin. The strength you take depends on your Homocysteine level.
You may therefore wish to buy our B Complex as well. In the standard strength (assuming you do not have an elevated Homocysteine level) 3 bottles costs $22.95 each.
I can pre-empt your question in case you do not know the significance of Homocysteine. That is an amino acid commonly found in the blood (like cholesterol). It is however more significant than cholesterol as elevated levels of Homocysteine more accurately predict death from heart disease, stroke and in fact all causes including surprisingly suicide as well. Elevated levels of Homocysteine often also cause a cascade of bad consequent changes for example higher levels of cholesterol in the blood. Fortunately, generally homocysteine levels can be brought down quite quickly by a special formulation of B Complex.
Hi Ben,
Thanks for the reply. My dad and unkle passed away when they were 47 yrs old from heart attacks, they were both heavy drinkers and smokers, I am not. I am 50 and several years ago I started having check ups with a treadmill every other year. I have been on Zocor/Simvistatin 20 for several years for elevated cholesterol, it was about 224, using zocor it’s about 165 with a good ratio. About a year ago my cardio doc did a Homosysieine panal and found it above the high range…19 I think. He put me on 2000mgs folic acid a day, after 3 months I was at a reading of 11. I am using the folic acid from the local health food store for like $6.00 a bottle. I guess I should take folic acid more serious. Thanks again.
Hi Tony
Your Homocysteine level should be below 6 preferably 5. 11 may be better than 19 but it is not good enough, that is really still very high. Folic acid by itself does not do it. The formula we use in our B Complex has been proven to properly reduce Homocysteine. You need our Mega Complex (for levels between 9 and 15). That costs $35 each for three bottles. It is your Homocysteine that is pushing up your cholesterol.
Simvastatin has so many negative aspects that it should be avoided (like most long term drug regimes). If you get your Homocysteine level down then you can do the rest you need to do to bring your cholesterol down with supplements and diet, basically the same diet that you need for your prostate anyway.
While you are taking Simvastin you also need to supplement COQ10 because Simvastin causes you to lose that essential nutrient. Without it you are setting yourself up to get congestive heart failure. Incidentally since Simvastin has been so widely prescribed, the incidence of CHF has increased threefold in the US. My highly bioavailable COQ10 as a patented nanodispersion liquid costs $49.50 each for three bottles but a bottle lasts 2 months so it is very good value.
The good news is that the Beta Sitosterol in TH is very good for bringing down cholesterol as is also Beta Glucan, so you are already taking two most important nutrients that can help you in that regard but you must bring down your homocysteine. It is very probably that which is a genetic factor in you and contributed to your father and uncle in their having early heart disease (helped along with their smoking).
Sorry to be scary, but I have to tell you about your health risks. What you do after that is your decision.
